What Is Drain Snaking?

A drain snake, also known as an auger or plumbing snake, is a tool used to clean drains and pipes in and around your home. For example, we can typically alleviate clogs due to hair or grease in sinks and floor drains using a simple hand auger. Similar to a spring when rotated, the drain snake breaks up clogs and sends them down the drain where they belong.

When a clog is more serious, such as those resulting from tree roots growing through main sewer lines, we use heavy-duty, motor-driven drain snakes and/or water jets to clear the obstruction. Our team will assess your clog and use the right tools to get the job done.

What Our Customers Say

“I recommend Pedro to everyone who asks. 1st of all he’s the nicest guy ever. Secondly you feel like you’re getting a fair price when you use him for a job. He actually came to my house one time and as I had a problem he couldn’t fix, he left without charging me a dime. I offered to pay him for his time and mileage but he refused to take my money. It’s not often you find that integrity in today’s world. It’s not fun to have to call a plumber, but Pedro will make the process less painful.”

Kristin O., Minneapolis, MN

"Amazing service! He was in and out in no time and left the bathroom spotless!

Ed, Columbia Heights, MN

"Pedro responded quickly and did a thorough and effective job resolving our clogged drains. We had a different plumber out to fix the same problem a few weeks earlier. That plumber snaked the drain, and that helped for a short time. Pedro soon figured out that the line from the kitchen was majorly clogged from years of use, and it had to be blasted with water. Simply snaking it was a waste of time. He also replaced a smaller line with a larger one. The amount of gunk he cleaned out was amazing. The money spent on the first plumber was a complete waste. Gopher wasn't cheap, but I feel like Pedro correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem.

Thomas, Roseville, MN

“Pedro came out the same day, fixed our plumbing issue, and probably saved us $1000 by recommending the right fix, not fixing unnecessary plumbing like most companies try to do.”

Justin H., Minneapolis, MN

"Miguel has been to our house multiple times over the years and each time is on time, helpful, and efficient. The first, in fact, was an emergency call on Thanksgiving. Prices are reasonable and you definitely get what you pay for. Strongly recommend for someone looking to avoid the big names and go with a local company.

FAQs on Drain Snaking Services

Can a drain snake break a pipe?

Drain snaking can present a risk for pipe damage, which is why it is important to have a professional perform the work. If your line is in good condition it is very unlikely that snaking the line would break it. However, if the line is cracked, separated, or quite old it could be further damaged by a cable. If your pipe was in poor condition to start with, drain snaking could reveal this issue and you would need to repair or replace the damaged line.

How much does it cost to have a plumber snake a drain?

Plumbers and drain cleaners are actually two separate fields - although both are trained and capable of performing drain cleaning.  Plumbers are equipped to clear, repair and replace lines, while drain techs are trained in and focus on drain cleaning specifically. Drain techs also typically have a larger variety of tools and equipment to get the job done correctly and fully. Our pricing is dependent on the drain in question - visit our Pricing page for details.

How long does it take a plumber to snake a drain?

That depends on a few things. The severity of the clog, the tools and equipment used and the set up of the plumbing. Our company can get most drains cleaned within an hour.
